SD7.1/8 is a revolutionary standard for removable storage cards, introduced by the SD Association in response to the increasing demand for higher-resolution videos and rapidly growing data. This new specification aims to reduce data loss and accelerate data transfer. SD Express achieves theoretical transfer speeds of up to 985MB/s for SD7.1 by combining advanced PCIe 3.0 specifications with NVMe 1.3 protocol. SD8.0 offers even higher bandwidth and lower latency, with theoretical transfer speeds reaching up to 1969MB/s. Leveraging high bandwidth and low latency, and through the collaborative efforts of the PCIe NVMe protocol, the SD Express specification can deliver SSD-like performance, enhancing user experience across various applications.

Additionally, SD8.0/7.1 is backward compatible with existing devices and supports faster speeds and larger capacities for new devices. SD8.0/7.1 card readers can detect the first row of pins on existing cards to read and support the UHS-I protocol, while the second row of pins enables the NVMe 1.3 protocol. To meet the rise of various mobile multimedia devices and emerging storage media, solutions from intelligent microchips can fulfill the scalability and high-performance requirements of storage.

As user demand for higher-capacity memory continues to grow, the new standard, SD Ultra Capacity (SDUC), directly increases the maximum capacity to 128TB, compared to the earlier limitation of 2TB for SDXC.mory card.
